Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex and Cargill Field House – Located right in front of The Villas on Monteith
This facility consists of a 25 meter swimming pool with hot tub and sauna, two ice arenas, concession, and is home of the Highwood Curling Club. The Curling Club runs four sheets of ice at the back of the facility. The new Cargill Field House addition, which opened in early 2014, adds over 33,000 sq. ft. of new space to the recreation complex. The new facility includes a two-lane walking track, spectator seating for 200 people, Meeting Room, and a playing surface designed to accommodate a variety of sports such as soccer, lacrosse, basketball, volleyball and badminton. High River Park and Trail System -Located right behind The Villas on Monteith
High River features numerous parks and green spaces including a children’s spray park, a Skateboard Park, an Off Leash Dog Park, tennis courts, baseball diamonds, a culture centre and lots of playgrounds and picnic areas, along with 28 km of Happy Trails paved pathways winding along the Highwood River and through High River’s many parks.
High River Tennis Club – Located right next to The Villas on Monteith
Located in Montrose, south of the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex. The tennis courts are available to the public with a drop in fee of $10/day or by membership ($65/family/year). Visit the High River Tennis Club website for the most up to date information.
Highwood Golf and Country Club
A semi-private 27 hole golf course that is a favourite for golfers from across southern Alberta. The $4.5 Million club house officially opened in 2010. Amenities include practice facilities, driving range, putting green, fully stocked Pro Shop and complete food & beverage services. Over 103 different species of birds can be found at Emerson Lake in High River, with records dating back to the 1900s.
Birding at Frank Lake Conservation Area
Frank Lake is listed by Duck’s Unlimitedas one of 597 Important Bird Areas in Canada, and is one of the best birding venues in the Calgary area. The lake is a shallow slough, typical of the prairie grasslands in Southern Alberta. It is a productive wetland that encompasses three basins totaling nearly 3,100 acres of flooded area with an additional 1,700 acres of managed upland habitat. The uplands are both native and seeded grasslands that benefit wildlife and waterfowl nesting. To date, 190 plant species, 194 bird species and over 16 mammal species have been recorded at the lake, including many that are regionally or provincially rare in status.

Foothills Shuffleboard Association
The Foothills Shuffleboard Association operates Monday and Tuesday evenings and Thursday mornings during the months of May, June, July and August of each year in the Highwood Curling Club, along with a singles and doubles tournament each year. The club is proud to announce that The International Shuffleboard Association (ISA) has approved the 2018 International Team Tournament be held at the Highwood Curling Club, July 15, 2018.
George Lane Park and Campground
George Lane Park is nestled among hundreds of mature trees beside the Highwood River, within a short walking distance from Downtown High River’s entertainment, shopping and restaurants. The park is equipped with many amenities including a stage for plays and small concerts, a gazebo bandstand, a playground, baseball diamond, bocce ball and horse shoe pits, picnic tables, public washrooms and a fully serviced overnight campground. Considered the Jewel of High River, George Lane Park is a favourite destination for visitors and residents alike.
The Town of High River organizes a variety of community programs throughout the year, ranging from sports and fitness, arts and crafts, pre-school programs, daycamps, recreaton and special events.
